They flew in one evening by AnnaKirsten They flew in one evening by AnnaKirsten

This is a multi-layered fractal created 100% in Ultra Fractal as part of my Ultra Fractal Floral series [link]

The Red Admiral butterfly OCA was isolated from one of my own photos and imported as a direct colouring algorithm via the inbuilt UF Image plug-in, spiralling in Point Orbit Traps.

Of course butterflies like this don't fly around during the darker hours, they hide under leaves and other things! But that's all part of the fantasy! :)

My grateful thanks always to =Velvet--Glove for the help she gave me a long time ago to produce floral fractals, and this is the first time I have made proper use of the Image Import facility with some knowledge of what I'm doing, after reading up further about the methods used and doing a lot of playing around with the various settings. (It's all a matter of finding the time to dedicate to the project!)

I'm pleased to see this one again. I particularly like those leaves.
I also see that you explain how to use images to :iconshadoweddancer:
I've noted that. I only use them simply behind a fractal. I'll have a go with this style. :)

It's an exciting way to do it, and much more flexible too :)

Thank you very much. I'll try and isolate a couple of layers with a tutorial, but there are some instructions inside Ultra Fractal 5 how to do this too; you need to make your image first of course from a photo or whatever, and if you want it to be just one object from the image that has to be isolated and saved as a png. I've made my butterfly png the same size as it was in the original photo at 300dpi so that when you do a large render in UF it doesn't go all pixelated. (I don't know what other people do as I never got a reply to that question originally, but I did have pixel problems with a small image.) You can use Orbit Traps OCA, but I used Julia ufm for the formula and Plug In Coloring (Direct) OCA found in Standard for this one. This gives you the ability to use Image Traps; trap shape = point; then when you get down to Colours, choose Color Trap Image Tiles inside REB; then inside Image Parameters, click on the folder next to Image Import and you can choose your image from there. (There is an Image folder inside UF5 which it's best to keep those images in so that they are always accessible. After than you can tweak the numbers below to get the part of the image you want, size, aspect etc.

I'm not very good at quickly explaining these things but I hope that will give you some kind of idea. Alternatively, just follow the instructions in the UF manual (I haven't fully read those yet!!) :)

Thanks so very much for the advice Anna, I really appreciate it. I didn't realize there was a decent tutorial on UF for importing images. As soon as I get the new cord for the laptop I use to do most of my fractalling, I'll give it a try.
