This is a beautiful piece that you have made. I love the fractal patterns in the trees and how they translate throughout the left hand side. I also love the birds. And that this is a piece for japan makes me smile. My inner mathematician is smiling right now.
I think you need to design more symmetry into your piece. The right side does not have the same fractal-esque beauty that the left side has. I think that you could have gone or go in two directions for this piece to make it even better then it already is. One suggestion is that you go with a different yet still curved fractal pattern on the right instead of a smudge /ripple effect. This will keep the flow of the water constant in your piece but nothing will be lost in the meaning like i feel happens on your right side currently. The other way is to go with more of a Mandelbrot like pattern to keep the infinity but using its shape to create more of a defined region for you to express yourself in.
