Benoit's Recurring Dream by AnnaKirsten Benoit's Recurring Dream by AnnaKirsten
This is a multi-layered fractal created 100% in Ultra Fractal as part of my Ultra Fractal Fantasy Scenes series.

It is my entry for the Mandelbrot Tribute Contest, more as my tribute to him than for any other reason [link] and is a Raw fractal.

Aww that's nice to know! I never have won a competition and don't normally even enter them, but I see others that definitely deserve to be placed rather than this one (which, incidentally, I could pick to pieces if I were to judge it!)

Don't be to hard on yourself Anna. There are on the other hand images sometimes that win in a competition that one wonders if the judges had been blind on one eye :D But as I say in my tag line "Beauty lies in the eyes....." :D

That is amazing. Good luck in the contest even though it is a tribute rather than a desire to win.

Thank you!

I've been playing around with Mandelbulb; interesting program but soooo much to learn and too little time! I did manage to do a nice large render, but ultimately wasn't too satisfied with it. Probably using the wrong formulas.

It takes a while to learn, it is easy to get lost in all the possibilities.
The amazing box is a good start I think, my latest renders is made from that formula, with negative scaling and added rotations.
BUT I recommend to start with positive values on the scaling, it gets harder to find interesting shapes with the negatives (but when you find them they are so much nicer ;) )

So, is it possible to have a transparent background in order to be able to superimpose the work onto a different background? I can't find any real facilities for editing in the program and wonder if it is complete... The Read-me isn't very comprehensive unfortunately and seems to assume we know something about the program in the first place. I really liked what I came up with yesterday, but there was more I wanted to do with it, and I didn't know how to save it so I could use it again inside the program - can you help with that? (Also I thought I'd saved some lighting I had created, but when I went to re-open that, I couldn't find it at all!!!) Another thing I'd like to know, is how do you get the fractal to go back to default again so I can start again? - Sorry for all the questions. I've joined Fractal Forums and left a message there, but to be honest, I don't have a lot of time to dive around between different sites.

whoo, that was a lot Anna... about the background, I usually use a clean background color, very blue or very red, then I can remove that in Photoshop to get my background image visible.
There are possibility to import a background directly to MB3D too! I never use it though I get better control in Photoshop...
You can save parameters (one of the "disc"-symbols int the top left of the main window), and open them with the corresponding folder icon... they are saved in a folder on your computer, so if you want to open you must find the folder you saved them in.
To go back to "original"? The mandelbulb-default, just relaunch MB3D.

I hope that will help you Anna!

Thanks so much.

I played further this afternoon and made a few discoveries - including that if you have the image displayed at 1/2 it only saves the BMP at half the stated size!!! :jawdrop: Fortunately I had already got this saved as a full parameter set, and also as a full BMP before reducing the display size to play further with the lighting! :phew: It doesn't matter too much.

Does your program have a menu included? Mine doesn't, and I'm still not convinced I have the complete thing. The other thing is that if I open the main program at full size, I don't get access to the lighting or formula palettes because they're underneath. Can't find any options?

I have also saved images half size, learning the hard way... ;)

There is no menues i MB3D, so I think you have a complete program!

The answer to your last question is no.

Consider that this program is less than a year old and it has happened lots with it in that year, give Jesse a year more and I think it will be perfect!

Exciting to see what you get out of it Anna!

Thanks for your help.. I'm getting the hang of it now. Have rendered several between yesterday and today - and have them saved with their lighting too, so I feel I'm achieving something. I uploaded one as a wallpaper today and have applied to join your group, but I haven't a clue what my fractal is based on, it's a hybrid that I started out with from scratch with a couple of internal formulas and a couple of external ones, zoomed in a lot etc... Hmm.. I don't even know what some of those gallery headings actually stand for, as I haven't studied what's a box and what isn't kind of thing!
